The name was first used by a Dutch exotic dancer who was born on August 7, 1876 in the Netherlands. However, during the first World War, she was arrested for being a German spy.
She was captured in France allegedly fishing for intelligence.
Her wild dance moves and carefree attitude when on stage led to her prominence all around the world. She went ahead to perform in different arenas.
Following the claims of being a spu she was killed by the French army on October 15, 1917. No one came forward to collect her body for burial and so it was taken to a museum in the Netherlands.
Her legacy is great in that there is a sculpture of her in a street in the Netherlands.
